Recommendation for practice time
Phase 1:
At least 10 hours of practice should be done on land. This will give you insight into the instructor profession and have little to relate to when you join the theoretical training. These 10 hours is best done before the theoretical part of the education, but can also be done afterwards. From land you see the activity in the water in a completely different way. You also see what's happening around the basin. You are standing at the pool and observe, see the big picture and taking notes.
Phase 2:
Your task is to be like a shadow for the instructor in the water. You follow the instructor closely and listening intently to the instructor instructs and how he/she treats the families in the water. It's easy to want to interact more with the families than what you should do in this situation. You should just take in and observe.
Phase 3:
The next phase is that you will contact and assist families with the exercises that you feel you have mastered.
You teach own lessons under guidance:
During Phase 2-3, you should as soon as possible to start teaching parts of the lessons yourself. This will be done in collaboration with your supervisor. The supervisor tells you which elements should be reviewed. Start with parts of the lesson, and gradually increase so that you in the end teach several lessons on your own. Discuss with your supervisor about the lesson plan and ask for feedback on how your teaching was. Soon you will teach alone, and you need all the advices you can get before that! During this time, it is appropriate to make the film of you teaching.
Practice time is your effort to become a good instructor. Be active!
Former trainee’s advice to you!
(Taken from the questionnaires)

• I would like to say that you have a fun, exciting and rewarding challenge ahead of you in an area where you can never be fully learned.
• Intensive and interesting training. Be well prepared for practice sessions! Contact the teacher in before hand and take part in the planning.
• Make sure to do practice and practice questionnaire as soon as possible!
• Do practice as soon as possible and try different activities. Do not be afraid to be involved in the lessons. It is in concrete situations with children and parents you learn the most.
• Help yourself and take in all the information you can get. Practice is very important! And from parents who go and have gone on swimming school, you can get lots of information.
• Take advantage of internship hours and be so involved and inquisitive as possible.
• Make as many hours as you can, afterwards you stand there alone.
